Asmara Eritrea - December 3rd 2006

 

After a breakfast in Daniels Fast Food Restaurant I have planned a long walk through Asmara that will be added to my tourist documentation of Asmara. When I have passed the government buildings behind the City Park and walk through Denden Street, I pass the offices of the Eritrean National Chamber of Commerce. I hear loud music coming from the building, that attracts my attention.

I am invited to come in to attend the closing ceremonies of the activities dedicated to World HIV/AIDS Day 2006. The Eritrean Red Cross has organized a informal morning program with music, drama, testimonies of persons that are infected with HIV/AIDS and presentations of the Eritrean Ministry of Health and other organisations. Friendly officials translate the essentials in English, so I have some idea of what is being said.

At 10:30 the event is finished and I drink tea with cake with the guests. I have a short chat with some of them, and we exchange e-mail addresses. Some of the guests have seen me when I visited the exhibitions in the Expo area in July this year, when they were representing their organization during the Festival Eritrea 2006. I promise Yohannes that I will mail them the pictures of these days and the July 2006 pictures.

I resume my walk and spend the rest of the day walking, writing and visiting family.
