Asmara - November 18 2009
Via Gheza Berhanu I climb the
hill on which the Cherhi restaurant is built. From the garden of this
traffic control like restaurant & party center one has an excellent
view over Asmara.
After reaching the hill's
top, I snake down through the alleys of Gheza Berhanu. It is one of the
poorer districts of Asmara. The small streets are basically the slope of
the hill, allowing no motorized traffic.
The alleys steeply rise and
decent, making it a nice exercise as well (it is one of my goals: to lose
some weight and some stress during my three weeks stay in Eritrea).
Many small children come from
their houses and want to shake hands. But I don't trust their hand for
reasons of hygiene. Their parents ask me where I am going to. Gheza
Berhanu, I answer them, as an argument that I am not lost.
