Asmara Eritrea - May 20th 2006

 

Second day in Asmara. Visiting friends, family and tourism service providers like hotels restaurants and travel agents. To update my web pages on Asmara and to enjoy fresh fruit drinks, pastry and beers. To try to update my agenda as well. And to catch a cold. It was sunny in the morning, but clouds closed the air above Asmara in the afternoon. It rained for some hours and the temperature dropped dramatically.

Best memories: I met some family members in front of a bar under the stairs of Bahti Meskerem Stadium in Asmara. I sat next to them and just waited until the police would tell me to go up to join the rest of the spectators. They didn't. From this position I had a much closer view on the artists performing this evening. And apart from that, I noticed some beautiful dressed ladies right behind me. I was sitting in front of the performing artists!

I did not want to take advantage of the situation to picture them, realizing I had entered their privacy zone without asking permission or a press card. But even before I realized I was sitting in front of the artists, I already pictured a nice lady in traditional clothes, smiling friendly at me when I turned my head. It was Fatima from Keren, I would find out when she entered the stage to do her part of the show.
