Keren Eritrea - May 29th 2006
The festival of Mariam Dearit. The festival is a yearly cultural and religious event on May 29. Religious ceremonies, music, singing, dancing and meeting people, around the shrine of the Holy Mary in a hollow baobab tree.
Nicest memories: the many invitations to drink tea, coffee, suwa, or to eat with the family picnicking in the shade of one of the many trees on the compound. And: the traditional dance of some Keren women on the drumbeat and Bilen songs of others, shaking their heads to through the plated hair from one side to another.
