Acria - Asmara Eritrea - November 19 2007
The morning is reserved for a
visit to the Housing and Commerce bank for private business, and the
Commercial Bank of Eritrea, to deposit the results of the fund raising for
the
five children of Mr. Mohamed Nur Abubeker in Afabet.
Next is a visit to Travel
House International to bring my greetings and for a possible agenda
update. Tedros invites my to be their guest tomorrow on a trip to Filfil,
when they will accompany a group of Japanese youngsters, who are having an
adventurous tour through Eritrea.
On Friday November 23 there
will be a steam train ride from Asmara to Nefasit for 50 dollar. The
Japanese adventure tourists have booked the train for a trip.
For these trips, and the rest
of my plans, I have to arrange a travel permit at the tourism service
center in Harnet Avenue. I make sure it covers all possible destinations,
including some villages in the neighborhood of Keren. I can collect the
permit at 17:30.
In Cathedral Snack Bar I enjoy
a mixed fruit juice called "Spris". The girls are exited about
their pictures. I promise I will return on Wednesday to make some more,
and they will be prepared.
The afternoon I spend walking
through another area in the northern periphery of Asmara, called Acria.
Part of the area used to be a settlement for Eritrean soldiers under
Italian command (Aguadu Acria). The small cement roofed agdos are still
there.
Just after 17:30 my permit is
ready. I make some photocopies for efficiency and safety reasons. If
possible I leave a copy at the checkpoint, so the military can finish
their registration, while I am back on the bus. It will shorten the
waiting time.
